Copper alloy pens efficiently eliminate microbes
A recent clinical study in the United Kingdom proves that copper pens are efficient in combating the microbes responsible for healthcare-associated infections. The research, conducted by specialists from University Hospitals Birmingham NHS, Foundation Trust, UK in collaboration with Ashton University compared the microbial contamination - found on copper alloy against that of stainless steel – pens used by nurses in intensive care units.
Significantly lower levels of microbes were found on the copper alloy pens due to copper’s natural antimicrobial properties. The findings are particularly important given that pens are one of the common touch surfaces that can facilitate the spread of pathogens between nurses, patients and visitors. The results prove that replacing traditional or even stainless steel pens with those made of copper alloys can contribute towards the ongoing battle against microbial contamination in hospitals.
